Choosing the perfect outfit is important. Your clothing choices are essential to your business. Your outfit will draw the right attention to the right place-your face.

What you wear says a lot about who you are. This is the first impression a new client will see. Color plays an important part. Solids are better than patterns but don't discount it if you look & feel great in the outfit while looking professional.

Check out the tips below for a successful session.

Tips For Successful Business Portraits

Men - Suit and tie is recommended for the professional. Which tie? See the colors and what they can mean below. If you are after a more casual look a dress shirt and tie is acceptable. The shirt should be full length sleeves. Clothing should be pressed and shoes polished.

Women - Dress, Dress suit, dress pants, blouse, tailored jacket. If you are wearing a blouse the sleeves should be full length. Clothing should be pressed and shoes polished. Wear your hair and make-up the way you normally wear it. Trying something new can result in a look you are not used to and be a disappointment to you.

TIP: Darker, solid clothing is slimming and so are vertical pleats-

Eyeglasses- To prevent glass glare, try to have your lenses removed.  If this isn't an option, ask your optometrist or local eyeglass store, if you can borrow or rent a pair of empty frames. Glass glare can sometimes be prevented by tilting your glasses, but this is not foolproof.

What colors to choose and what they say it says about you. . . .

Black - is associated with strength, authority, bold, powerful, sophistication and elegance. It is considered to be a prestigious color.
Blue - is associated with trustworthy, dependable, expertise, stability, serene and fiscally responsible & secure
Grey - is associated with stability, power, trustworthiness, conservatism, sophisticated and being formal
Red - is associated with energy, danger, strength, power, determination and leadership as well as passion, desire, action and love.
Orange - is associated with happiness, joy, balance, warmth, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

Green - is associated with growth, life, energy, fresh, safety and harmony. Dark green is also commonly associated with money.

What NOT to wear:
No white or light beige/pastel shirts without a jacket. White reflects the light and destract from the main focus- your face!
No bold patterns–whether on a shirt, tie or jacket. In a group, bold patterns take away a sense of cohesiveness, but sometimes it works alone as seen in the image above.
Also, if the image is going to be used online, bold patterns can created optical illusions that are distracting.
